Crowning Glory: Platinum Jubilee Best Jewels

Let’s talk about royal jewels! The platinum jubilee is a celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s extraordinary 70 year reign as the monarch of England. It’s worth noting that while each member of the family has their own personal taste, the royals often use their jewels to convey a symbolic meaning or message. If you’re looking for a round-up of gems on display during the jubilee, look no further.

It only seems fitting to start with the Queen. Known for her love of brooches, she is said to have well over a hundred in her collection. During her appearances for the platinum jubilee the Queen wore three different brooches. One of which was a brooch designed exclusively to commemorate the milestone. The design is full of symbolism, as to be expected, and showcases the four nations of the United Kingdom as well as a nod to her seven decade reign.

For the Trooping the Colour the Queen wore the traditional Brigade of Guards brooch, the same one she has worn to this event in previous years. It is a diamond encrusted brooch and the design combines the badges of the regiments. For her final appearance during the celebrations the queen wore a brooch that was a favorite of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria. It is formed into the shape of a looping bow and is part of a set of three.

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, is known for her subdued fashion sense and her jewelry is no exception. For the jubilee she followed in the footsteps of the Queen and chose pieces full of meaning. For Trooping the Colour she wore a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings and a matching necklace that belonged to Princess Diana, most likely as a way to honor her late mother-in-law. The earrings complement her engagement ring, which was also Diana’s, perfectly, displaying the same setting of a brilliant sapphire, surrounded by diamonds. For the Service of Thanksgiving, she wore the Bahrain Pearl drop earrings borrowed from the queen’s personal collection and on extended loan to Kate. True to form, she also incorporated an affordable pair of gold angular hoop earrings from the brand Spells of Love.

Meghan Markle’s appearance was brief, but in that time one of her favorite pieces of jewelry was on full display. She was seen wearing the Maison Birks Snowflake earrings that have become synonymous with her royal style.
